Variety In The Type Of Medical Assistant Jobs Available

If you are interested in a career in the medical profession and have a knack for organization as well as enjoy working with people you may find that a Medical Assistant career is right for you. Professionals trained in this position are very much in demand and as such there are many Medical Assistant jobs available.

Medical Assistant training can either be for nine to twelve months or up to two years if an Associate Degree is desired. These studies can be completed at a career or community college or can be studied for via an online study course. If you think you may want to continue your education at a later date and either branch out into another medical career or pursue another career you may want to study for an Associate Degree as all credits gained can be counted towards a Bachelor’s Degree.

With advances made in the field of medical care and technology, more specialization within the medical field and a growing population of senior citizens in need of regular medical care and monitoring, openings are available in many different medical facilities. Employment can be easily found in doctor’s clinics, hospitals, homes for the elderly and other institutions offering long-term and short-term medical care.  Responsibilities given and tasks assigned may vary from location to location, depending upon the needs and the proclivity and preferences of the staff and doctors in charge.

In some instances the work is more clerical in nature. Assistants are required to greet patients, take vital signs, do preliminary interviews, coordinate the exchange of information between different departments, file records and make follow up appointments.  Usually an assistant is also responsible for stocking the clinic or department, for maintaining the organization of the examination room and for re-stocking supplies and needed equipment. A sense of organization and good time management skills are important, as is the ability to quickly build a rapport with patients. In some facilities they may be required to take and record vital signs, change dressings, give injections, aid with physical examinations and perform other similar tasks.

This type of work is rewarding and challenging; perfect for anyone who enjoys working within the medical field in a position where they have day to day contact with clients and patients as well as an opportunity to help in the treatment and care of others.
