The Certified Nursing Assistant Is A Key Player In The Medical Profession
A Certified Nursing Assistant plays a very important role in the care and recovery of patients. A CNA job is a rewarding position for those who are empathetic and have a desire to help others. Their responsibilities are varied, with their tasks depending on their place of employment and to some degree the expectations of the hospital or clinic where they work. CNAs work at hospitals, doctor’s private clinics, rehab centers or in other facilities caring for the aged or disabled.
Their role within the medical profession is pivotal. Their main responsibilities are towards those they care for and they are usually found working amongst patients. Previously, many of the tasks now handled by a CNA were performed by a Registered Nurse. Their ability to take on these types of responsibilities has meant that the overall care of patients has improved as they can devote more time to the actual physical care of patients than was formerly possible; primarily because they are on the front lines when it comes to caring for patients. Their close involvement with patients provides them with better quality as they spend more time on the ward and can more clearly see and meet the needs of their patients.
A CNA performs many physical tasks such as assisting patients to get in and out of beds, helping them to walk, bathing and grooming those in their care, helping patients with physical tasks that they cannot perform by themselves and taking and recording vital signs. They are also in a key position to offer encouragement and emotional support at a time when a patient is at their most fragile emotionally.
In order to train as a CNA you will need to have a High School Diploma or GED and then undergo a six to twelve week training program which will be comprised of both on the job training and classroom training. The longer training and the more skills that are taught, the higher paying position and level of responsibility you will receive. A certification examination is not required in all situations although it is recommended.
